NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR ROBERT DUGONI RETURNS WITH HIS MOST EXHILARATING THRILLER TO DATE, A PULSE-POUNDING STORY OF CORPORATE GREED, ESPIONAGE, AND THE LENGTHS ONE MAN IS WILLING TO GO FOR JUSTICE. Bodily Harm opens with a big win for David Sloane and his new partner, Tom Pendergrass, in a malpractice case centered on the death of a young child. But on the heels of this seeming victory, an unlikely character—toy designer Kyle Horgan— comes forward to tell Sloane that he’s gotten it all wrong: Horgan’s the one who’s truly responsible for the little boy’s death and possibly others—not the pediatrician Sloane has just proven guilty. Ordinarily, Sloane might have dismissed such a person as a crackpot, but something about this case has always troubled him—something that he couldn’t quite pinpoint. When Sloane tries to follow up with Horgan, he finds the man’s apartment a shambles— ransacked by unknown perpetrators. Horgan has vanished without a trace. Together with his longtime investigative partner Charles Jenkins, Sloane reexamines his clients’ son’s death and digs deeper into Horgan’s claims, forcing him to enter the billion-dollar, cutthroat toy industry. As Sloane gets closer to the truth, he trips a wire that leads to a shocking chain of events that nearly destroys him. To get to the bottom of it all and find justice for the families harmed, Sloane must keep in check his overwhelming desire for revenge. Full of nail-bitingly tense action scenes as well as edge-of-your-seat courtroom drama, Bodily Harm finds Robert Dugoni at the very top of his game.

This dissertation explores the depiction of self-destructive behaviors, including eating disorders and cutting, in young adult literature. Self-harming behaviors have experienced an increased presence in the field of young adult literature over the past several decades. In this dissertation, I consider the history of self-harming behaviors, paying special attention to the ways that normative adult authority politicizes and regulates the young female body. I then offer a series of close readings of problem novels and contemporary fantasy texts to show the progression of the depiction of self-injurious acts from solely destructive to potentially creative. I conclude with a consideration of the necessity for teaching texts that deal with mental illness and pathologies. By combining a critical consideration of young adult texts with theoretical perspectives from the fields of sociology, psychiatry, and medicine, I offer a reading of these texts that takes into account the sociocultural landscape of the self-harming teen and positions the teen as an active performer in her own life, rather than a passive body that is acted upon.

This major new text examines the core features of criminal law in all Australian jurisdictions. It builds upon the trend of recent High Court decisions to provide national solutions that will work so far as possible in all Australian jurisdictions, whether code or common law. Professor David Lanham and his co-authors at Melbourne Law School cover both general principles and specific offences. The latter include murder, manslaughter, abortion and euthanasia, assaults, threats, bodily harm and endangerment offences, sexual offences, theft and larceny, false pretences and deception, and offences involving financial advantage, benefits and detriments. There is significant novelty in the very close analysis of the central role played by defences in assessing criminality. This is accompanied by detailed discussion of general topics such as the different forms of criminal liability, and preliminary crimes such as attempts, incitement and conspiracy. There is also a chapter on accomplices, including aiding and abetting, innocent agency, and acting in concert and causation as a basis of joint liability. Three additional introductory chapters - What is a Crime? The Purposes of Criminal Law, and The Anatomy of a Crime - intended particularly for students, are published electronically - see Supplements below.

Rennie Wilford is a freelance journalist who takes an assignment in the Caribbean in the hopes of recuperating from her recently shattered life. On the tiny island of St. Antoine, she tumbles into a corrupt world where no one is what they seem, where her rules for survival no longer apply. This is a thoroughly gripping novel of intrigue and betrayal, which explores human defensiveness, the lust for power both sexual and political, and the need for a compassion that goes beyond what we ordinarily mean by love. The enigma unfolds as it would for any innocent bystander swept up by events, bringing along the scruples, and the fears, of the past.
