Unfettered is an anthology of original fantasy fiction by some of the very biggest names in fantasy fiction, and it also features deleted scenes from A MEMORY OF LIGHT, the final book in Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series. This collection is not only a fantastic anthology in its own right, but it's a testament to the generosity found in the science fiction and fantasy community. When author Shawn Speakman fell seriously ill and was unable to pay his medical bills, that's when New York Times bestselling author Terry Brooks offered to donate a short story that Shawn could sell to help alleviate those bills. He also suggested he ask the same of his other writer friends, and Unfettered is the incredible result. Twenty-four tales comprise this superb collection, and as the title suggests, the writers were free to contribute whatever they wished. Table of contents: - Foreword by Patrick Rothfuss - Introduction: On Becoming Unfettered - Imaginary Friends by Terry Brooks - How Old Holly Came To Be by Patrick Rothfuss - The Old Scale Game by Tad Williams - Game of Chance by Carrie Vaughn - The Martyr of the Roses by Jacqueline Carey - Mudboy by Peter V. Brett - The Sound of Broken Absolutes by Peter Orullian - The Coach with Big Teeth by R.A. Salvatore - Keeper of Memory by Todd Lockwood - Heaven in a Wild Flower by Blake Charlton - Dogs by Daniel Abraham - The Chapel Perilous by Kevin Hearne - Select Mode by Mark Lawrence - All the Girls Love Michael Stein by David Anthony Durham - Strange Rain by Jennifer Bosworth - Nocturne by Robert V.S. Redick - Unbowed by Eldon Thompson - In Favour with Their Stars by Naomi Novik - River of Souls by Robert Jordan & Brandon Sanderson - The Jester by Michael J. Isabelle has long loved and cared for the dilapidated Victorian house on the hill. So when she decides to cast a spell to give her sexual expertise and the perfect mate, what better place to go than her beloved Victorian--a house of dubious reputation. But she learns all too soon that it pays to be specific in spell casting. Everything she’s asked for is hers...back in 1901. Oh, and one more thing--she forgot to ask to keep them. The woman of his dreams sifts through Daniel’s grasp like the fine grains of salt sprinkled on his floor. He’s known a few spell casters in time, but for a cautious man to dare something so...impossible... Well, it wouldn’t be the first time his mother considered having him committed. With the help of friends, he sets out to do the impossible--go to Isabelle, a feat seemingly doomed by calendar quirks. Would the Fates be so cruel to keep them apart--like the sun who always chases the moon? Only the mercurial grandfather clock holding court in the Victorian can tell...if anybody would bother to listen. Publisher's note: Unfettered was previously released by another publisher. It has been revised and re-edited for this version.

On former occasions, when disease had drawn him to the edge of the grave, so skillfully did Aunt Catherine second the recuperative work of nature that he was led back to life and health. Now that her healing art has failed her, she sits heartbroken, and, like Rachel weeping for her children, refuses to be comforted. No mother ever loved an offspring with greater intensity than Aunt Catherine loved -Maury,- as she called him. Near to Aunt Catherine stands Lemuel Dalton, a nephew and the sole surviving relative of Maurice Dalton. Tall, slender and well featured, he was an interesting figure at any time. His firm, gray eyes give evidence of great grief over the approaching death of his uncle, although the death of this uncle is his only known means of an early escape from poverty. At the foot of the bed on which Maurice Dalton lies, stands Morlene, a beautiful girl just budding into womanhood. She is a Negro, although her very pleasing complexion is so light as to give plain evidence of a strong infusion of Anglo-Saxon blood.

In this prophetic call to faithful Christian living, Marva Dawn identifies the epidemic socio-cultural attitudes that destroy hope in our modern lives. Because affluent persons don't know what to value--how to choose what's important and weed out the rest--we remain dissatisfied with what we have and are compelled to want more. Dawn demonstrates, however, how Christians can organize their lives to live in ways that allow them to love God and neighbor and, in the process, alleviate the despair in their lives and in the lives of others in the world.

Working on a large canvas, Science Unfettered contributes to the ongoing debates in the philosophy of science. The ambitious aim of its authors is to reconceptualize the orientation of the subject, and to provide a new framework for understanding science as a human activity. Mobilizing the literature of the philosophy of science, the history of science, the sociology of science, and philosophy in general, Professors McGuire and Tuchanska build on these fields with the view of transforming their insights into a new epistemological and ontological basis for studying the enterprise of science. In this approach, McGuire and Tuchanska have combined work from both Anglo-American and Continental traditions of philosophy. As a result, the works of Popper, Kuhn, Quine, and Lakatos, as well as Heidegger, Gadamer, Nietzsche, Foucault, and Feyerabend, are called into play. In addition, Science Unfettered deals extensively with history and historicity, offering a theory of historicity of science as it emerges in sociocultural contexts. Unorthodox in its approach, Science Unfettered articulates an alternative that views science ontologically as a “practice,” a perspective from which traditional issues concerning the relationship of experiment to theory, the cognitive to the social, the relation between historical change and epistemic validity, the meaning of “objectivity” and the like can be addressed in a more fruitful way than is possible by starting with the traditional, ontological framework of subject and object.

Passionate multi-cultural romantic fiction echoes its author’s experiences, revealing the challenges and injustices suffered by those from different cultures and religions as they make their way in Britain today. Issum is an Anglo-Egyptian man, torn between his disparate cultural identity and heritage. Unable to identify with either his British side or his Egyptian heritage, Issum oscillates between the two, never feeling accepted or at home within either tradition. Each culture is suspicious of Issum in its own way, rejecting him for not being pure and uncomplicated. Unable to settle culturally, Issum wanders through his early life, never achieving his full potential. Turning forty brings with it an epiphany of sorts; he qualifies as a teacher and meets an older woman whom he quickly marries. Perhaps he can find a sense of purpose and identity through marriage? Driven by compassion and responsibility, Issum is motivated to help cure his new wife of her terrible addiction to alcohol, but his efforts prove to be in vain. Once again finding himself alone, broke and on the move, Issum moves to Vietnam for work, hopeful that a new life in an exotic country will bring with it the clarity and the direction he desperately seeks. Issum finally meets the woman of his dreams, Ismahane, who shares his cultural identity crisis, herself torn between her Middle Eastern heritage and Western upbringing. Together the couple excitedly plan their future together, which will have to be temporarily put on hold while Ismahane travels abroad to become an Algerian diplomat. But as soon as she leaves Vietnam, Issum’s future suddenly begins to look bleak once more, as a rivalry with a British colleague and a violent altercation loom on the horizon. Will Issum be able to overcome the injustices of his past in order to build for the future? Or is racial and religious prejudice hell-bent on sabotaging his chances of happiness. In his unsettling and gripping novel Unhinged and Unfettered S. A. Ebeid reveals the pain and suffering he has endured by never being able to fit in, or be accepted by, different cultures. His book provides a timely reminder to all who believe in the success of multiculturalism, exposing its many and complex shortcomings. Authors' Note: Even though this book is a multi-cultural romance, it is so much more than a romantic novel. It deals with issues which we have to live with, in the modern world. Some issues are relatively new in our society such as the “War on Terror” and others many centuries older, such as alcoholism, sexism and racism. Some issues are brought to light in a humorous or thought provoking manner, others in a dark and evil manner (torture). This book does not know or give the answers to such issues. It does however try to give an insight as to how they could be dealt with or how people may react if they are treated in a certain manner. It can certainly be read as a romantic novel and the various thought provoking issues skipped. Please utilize the interactive blog of this book to discuss the issues, which you have with the author or fellow readers. It is only through discussion and understanding that societies can progress. I believe, globally, humans need to develop a better understanding and tolerance towards each other; otherwise self destruction is not a distant threat.

This classic samurai-era text fused Japanese swordsmanship with Zen and influenced the direction that the art has taken ever since. Written by the seventeenth-century Zen master Takuan Soho (1573–1645), The Unfettered Mind is a book of advice on swordsmanship and the cultivation of right mind and intention. It was written as a guide for the samurai Yagyu Munenori, who was a great swordsman and rival to the legendary Miyamoto Musashi. Takuan was a giant in the history of Zen; he was also a gardener, calligrapher, poet, author, adviser to samurai and shoguns, and a pivotal figure in Zen painting. He was known for his brilliance and acerbic wit. In these succinct and pointed essays, Takuan is concerned primarily with understanding and refining the mind—both generally and when faced with conflict. The Unfettered Mind was a major influence on the classic manifestos on swordsmanship that came after it, including Miyamoto Musashi's Book of Five Rings and Yagyu Munenori's Life-Giving Sword.
